Tanzania's Elephant Paradise

Tarangire National Park is one of Tanzania's most underrated wildlife destinations — and, for many visitors, an unexpected highlight of their safari. The park's legendary elephant herds are the main draw; Tarangire has more elephants per square kilometre during the dry season than almost anywhere else on earth, with herds of 300+ animals gathering at the Tarangire River. The iconic baobab-dotted landscape — some trees over 1,000 years old — creates a backdrop unlike anywhere else in Tanzania. The park also supports large populations of oryx, eland, and rare species like the fringe-eared oryx and gerenuk.
