Walking Safaris
Step out of the vehicle and into the ecosystem. A walking safari transforms your relationship with the African wilderness — suddenly you are no longer an observer behind glass but a participant in the ancient drama of the bush. With an expert armed ranger at your side, the landscape comes alive in an entirely different way: the snap of a twig, the smell of an elephant’s recent passage, the tracks of a leopard pressed into the soft earth of a river bank.
What to Expect
Walking safaris in Tanzania are conducted by certified, armed rangers with decades of bush experience. Walks typically last 2–4 hours and focus on tracking, bush craft and the smaller wonders of the ecosystem that vehicle-based drives miss entirely — insects, birds, plants, fungi and the fascinating web of relationships between them. You may encounter large mammals at close range; your ranger will assess every situation and guide you safely.
Walking safaris are available in designated areas of Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Tarangire National Park. They are conducted in small groups (maximum 6 people) for safety and to maintain the intimate atmosphere. Comfortable walking shoes and neutral-coloured clothing are all you need.
